Grab A Slice of Homemade Pizza

homemade pizza with cheese, pepperoni, and pesto

I made this on a whim — I was craaaaaaaaaaaaving pizza but it was Tuesday at lunch. I didn’t want to spend extra money to pay for delivery and also didn’t feel like leaving the house to pick it up. What was I to do?! I just wanted ooey gooey yumminess. Life is hard sometimes, ya feel?

So, I decided I would give it a go and make homemade pizza. Had I made it before? Negative.

Will I make an insaaaane pizza that is now a weekly demand in my house? YOU BET YOUR SAUCEY BOTTOM DOLLAR

This pizza feeds 3 adults, so never fear. However, you can always break the dough in half or double if you want to try a few different pizzas.

Homemade pizza with cheese, pepperoni, and pesto

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2-3/4 cup yogurt (I use full-fate Fage)
  • 1TBS cornmeal (optional)

Sauce

  • Feel free to buy a pre-made pizza sauce. If you don’t want to or if you’re ballin on a budget, consider buying a can of crushed tomatoes and seasoning with salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and oregano. Likely you have those spices in your pantry and this will be MUCH cheaper than buying a pre-made sauce

Toppings!

  • Honestly, buy the toppings you want! Here are a few tips
    • Cheese — I always use mozzarella and grated parmesan cheese. In my opinion the parm really makes it
    • If you want to use mushrooms, sauté them first and then pat them dry before adding them to your pizza
    • Pesto is always a great last min drizzle on top… you’re welcome

Directions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 500 degrees F on convection bake (or bake)
  • Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder in a medium mixing bowl
  • Add Yogurt and mix (I always end up using my hands, so I would recommend just get in there and get messy)
  • Knead the dough for 3-4 minutes, until it looks like a smooth dough ball.
  • Lay some extra flour on the counter at transfer your dough ball to the counter. I start to form my circle with my hands first and then use the rolling pin for the rest. You want to roll a thin dough, as it will rise a little during the cooking process.
  • You’ll want to do a pre cook on this dough. Dust the bottom of the skillet evenly with the cornmeal and lay the dough on top. Cook on medium-high heat for 5-6 minutes. The dough will start to bubble when it cooks.
  • After the pre-cook, transfer the dough to a baking sheet and add your sauce and toppings!
  • Bake in the over for 10 minutes. Let it cool, slice it up, and enjoy!
