I swear, New Year resolutions always look the same: join that gym, lose that weight, save that money, socialize more, plan that trip, etc….
Yet, by March or April, we can’t even remember the resolutions we plastered all over social media. I’m not passing judgement, I’ve been there. I’ve written them out, boasted to my friends about all of the things I would do, and not even noticed when they slipped away. Only to be met with December 31/Jan 1 making the same cyclical decision.
At least I’m dedicated to the process. That I’ve mastered.
This year, I don’t think I’m going to partake. Or maybe I will just alter my perspective a little bit. Rather than finding all of the little things I’d like to change about myself and writing them down as little clichés, I will allow food to lay down the pathway. Seems a little nutty, I know.
- Lose weight? Maybe we phrase it as refine my food blueprint to support my body. We’re allowed to kick the junk we know doesn’t support our machines, rather makes me feel sluggish.
- Save money? Rather than eating out all of the time, I can buy quality ingredients to make those dishes for a fraction of the cost.
- Socialize more? Assuming everyone is negative for COVID-19 or we’re all vaccinated* when I make the restaurant-dupe recipes mentioned above? Invite a few friends over. They bring the wine and you can have a fun get together. Or, if we’re all still quarantining, plan to make the recipes over Zoom and enjoy together.
We can incorporate food into our daily lives and as part of our resolutions. So while some resolution lists may look like an uphill battle that lacks fun, I can fiiiiinally shape mine to look enjoyable and achieve the same goals.
